is Essence Beauty Cruelty Free ? Essence's Response

HELLO BOOS, I recently reach out to Essence to find out if they are cruelty free, this is the response I got back from them. Any questions feel free to comment below.

It all seem to checked out until they said they use
beeswax normally synthetic ? Hmm.. they also said that some products contain Lanolin.
Lanolin (German use, from Latin lāna, "wool", and oleum, "oil"), also called wool wax or wool grease, is a yellow waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals.
Hmmm..
They also stated that
Some of there products do contain palm oil and carnuaba wax but cannot guarantee their sources are organic .

It seems that that some of there products do contain animals bi-products, even though they state that they are Cruelty Free, but some are there products are cruelty free and vegan. In my book, I would not consider them cruelty free, but the choice is yours. If you do decide to purchase there products I would suggest looking up the ingredients on there website. I appreciate Essence Beauty honesty but I don't think I will be purchasing any of there products in the future, I only want to use products with no animal products regardless if there cruelty free or not.

What you think of Essence Response?, is it enough for you to buy from them ?

Until next time.

REACHING OUT

Hello, My name is Mary Valentin. I am the writer for Lipsticks & Labradors (www.lipsticksandlabradors.com), a cruelty-free beauty blog. I am interested and would like to be assured that your products are cruelty-free. I have some questions I would appreciate you address. Please be sure to answer all of them as the answers you provide are very important to both my readers and myself.

1. Does your company test ingredients or/and finished products on animals?
 2. Do you test ingredients or products on animals through a 3rd party? If your answer is no, how do you ensure that your manufacturers do not test?
3. Do your manufacturers test ingredients or products on animals?
4. Are you owned or affiliated with any companies that test products or ingredients on animals?
5. Do you have a parent company? If so who are they?
6. Do you/your parent company currently or have plans to market and sell your products in the Chinese market, which requires animal testing by law to sell in that country?
7. Do you use palm oil/carnuaba wax in any of your products? If so, is it from an organic and sustainable source?
8. Could you provide a list of all of your current vegan items available for purchase? Thank you in advance for you cooperation!

RESPONSE

Hi Mary,
Thank you for reaching out to us!

We are pleased to answer your questions. Yes, it is true that we do not test our products on animals.

Since the autumn of 1998, animal testing for decorative or pampering cosmetic end-products is no longer permitted in Germany. Since September 2004, it is also forbidden in Europe to test cosmetic end-products on animals, which is where we manufacture our products. Moreover it is forbidden to bring cosmetic products on the market which are tested on animals.

Therefore we can assure you that cosnova inc. neither conducts testing on animals, nor commissions it to any third parties - not in Germany or anywhere else in the world. This is also one of the criteria for the selection of cosnova suppliers as we need to ensure that their products are produced strictly without testing on animals. We also strongly disapprove of testing on animals with end-products.

Regarding your question as to whether or not we sell our products in China: no, we do not nor do we have any plans to in the near future.

We do only use substances that conform with the European and International (f.e. FDA) Cosmetic Law and therefore their riskiness has been estimated a long time ago and is considered as safe. Some of our products do contain palm oil and carnuaba wax but I cannot guarantee their sources are organic or sustainable at this time.

We strive for transparency and fully disclose all of our ingredients for every product and shade we offer at http://www.essence.eu/us/products/. Just click on a product you are curious about and select the "ingredients" tab to see what it contains. Many of our products are also vegan although we do not have a comprehensive list. We do use beeswax (normally synthetic, however) and lanolin in some products so it is recommended that you refer to the ingredient list of specific products you are interested in to determine if these ingredients are present.

We hope we have been able to clarify these issues for you and that you will continue to have lots of fun with our products.

Should you have any further questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact us again at any time.

Best,

Your essence beauty team
